Celtic Dragons Fall Short In Clash With Severn Stars

Celtic Dragons 50, Severn Stars 59

Cardiff-based Celtic Dragons are still searching for the consistency to figure up their season.

They earned their first win of the Vitality Netball Superleague season in their previous fixture, 55-52 against Sirens, and produced an intense, competitive team performance against Severn Stars. But they were edged out by nine points.

In a physical match wing-attack Bethan Dyke was outstanding and there was a lively atmosphere at Sport Wales National Centre,

Only one goal separated Dragons and Stars after the first quarter, while the Worcester-based visitors extended that to 31-27 by half-time.

Dragons made changes with Lois Rideout at goal-defence and Lydia Hitchings playing goal-shooter.

Suzy Drane took over from Stacey Peeters at wing-defence – Peeters did return later – and Leila Thomas had a spell at goal-keeper.

Stars were 42-38 ahead after three quarters before they held on to clinch victory.

The next test for Dragons is against Team Bath away this Saturday (April 22), while they still have to play Team Northumberland and Loughborough Lightning away during May.

Their next home game is against Manchester Thunder on Saturday week (April 29, 4pm).
