Bluebirds Trophy Treble For Icelandic Warrior Aron Gunnarsson

Aaron Gunnarsson was a three-time winner during the Cardiff City awards night.

Manager Neil Warnock and his players joined supporters at a black tie event at the club’s stadium.

The event, sponsored by Foster’s and organised annually by Cardiff City Supporters Club, was well attended by fans.

Iceland captain Gunnarsson was voted players player and fans player of the season, while he also received the trophy was most man of the match awards.

‘Gunnar’ signed for the Bluebirds in 2011 and will return for his seventh season with Cardiff in July.

He has scored 23 goals in 237 first team appearances.

Centre-forward Kenneth Zohore won Young Player of the Season, while his brilliant run and strike against Preston North End was voted goal of the season.

Zohore was asked what Warnock had told him when he selected him against Wolves in December and the Danish striker said: “The gaffer said if I didn’t do well I would go the same week!”

He also picked out his personal favourite goal of 2016-17, saying: “My first against Ipswich Town at home. We were a goal down and that gave us the chance to go on and win.”

Peter Whittingham, who will have talks on a new contract at the end of this season, received a trophy for outstanding contribution to Cardiff City.

‘Whitts’, who has netted 98 goals during a decade with Cardiff, is the club’s longest serving player.

Young player of the season: Kenneth Zohore.

Fans man of the match (votes over season): Aaron Gunnarsson.

Players Player of the Season: Aaron Gunnarsson.

Special recognition award: Ian Fitzgerald (October 2, 1955 to February 7, 2017).
