Bluebirds Plan Five Fixtures For Pre-Season Trip To South West

Cardiff City will play five matches during their pre-season tour to the South West of England.

Manager Neil Warnock will take his players to Devon and Cornwall and he has organised three first team fixtures plus two for the Bluebirds’ under-23 team.

Their first matches are against South West Peninsular League teams Tavistock and Bodmin before Cardiff play Plymouth Argyle, who will be crowned League Two champions this weekend when they play Plymouth Argyle away.

They can, though, still be caught by Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth if they slip up.

City captain Sean Morrison, 26, was born in Plymouth and was with Argyle as a youth player.

Tavistock, a club near Warnock’s home, are Peninsular League champions this season, while Bodmin won the title a year ago and finished third this time.

Craig Bellamy is in charge of Cardiff’s under-23 team and they play St Austell, who play Peninsular League football and are former champions, and Bideford, members of Southern League South and West.

Warnock has organised an open training day on Tuesday, July 18 when supporters are welcome to watch the team working. There will be opportunities to have photographs taken with players.

The tour details were announced during the Bluebirds’ presentation evening which was attended by Warnock and his squad at Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff have one Championship fixture left, against Huddersfield Town away on Sunday.

That will end the 2016-17 season and Warnock has contract talks planned with a number of players including Peter Whittingham, Junior Hoilett, Bruno Manga and Kadeem Harris.
