Bluebirds Snap Up Nigerian Striker From Germany On Trial

Nigerian striker Osayamen Osawe has joined Cardiff City on trial.

Osawe, a 23-year-old who is with German club FC Kaiserslautern, was born in Benin City, Nigeria, but holds British citizenship.

His family moved from Nigeria to Manchester in 2002 and Osawe spent his youth career with Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, while he has played senior football for Accrington Stanley, Hyde, Southport and German club Hallescher.

He scored seven goals in 32 league appearances for Hallescher during his first season with the club.

Osawe made his debut for Cardiff in their Premier Development League match against Sheffield United away. The Bluebirds included five under-18 players in a young team.

Diego Poyet, son of former Spurs, Chelsea and Uruguay player Gus, made a second appearance for the Bluebirds.

The 22-year-old Diego, who has played first team football for West Ham and Charlton, was in Cardiff City’s Development team when they lost 2-1 against Sheffield Wednesday a week ago.

He has been training with City while on trial, but no decision has been made yet on his Bluebirds future.

Sheffield United led 1-0 against Cardiff at half-time and went on to win by three goals with Tyler Smith (2) and Jordan Hallam the scorers.

The next match for Cardiff’s under-23 team is against Crewe Alexandra at Leckwith International Stadium this Friday (2pm).

The young Bluebirds have been drawn in a group with Southampton, Watford and Blackburn Rovers in the Premier Development League Cup..
