Striker Scores Twice In Bluebirds Under-23 Trial

The young Bluebirds came through an under-23 trial with flying colours in West Yorkshire.

Cardiff City included five trialists in their starting line-up against Huddersfield Town and the number nine netted both goals.

There were nine under-23 regulars unavailable because international calls and the Bluebirds included a number of first year scholars along with five trialists.

Craig Bellamy, City’s player development manager, and his coaches having been assessing a number of trialists since pre-season fixtures.

Former Everton youth player Tyrone Duffus has signed for Bluebirds, while Danny Mullen, 22, and 17-year-old Matthew Knox are back at parent club Livingston after spending time with Cardiff.

Diego Poyet, the son of former Chelsea and Spurs player Gus and Matthew Mackinson (Blackburn Rovers) have also had trial spells under Bellamy and his staff.

The Bluebirds have also spent time working with 19-year-old right-back David Attah, who played for Paris St Germain under-19s plus Lorient B, and winger Ufumwen Osawe, also aged 19. He was released by Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season.

Cardiff’s 2-1 victory at Huddersfield was their second successive win following their Premier Development League Two South win against Crewe.

Cardiff started the brighter of the teams and scored their first goal after 12 minutes.

Goalkeeper Tadgh Ryan made some good saves for Huddersfield, while the home team also had chances.

Cardiff made it 2-0 on the hour with their star trialist scoring on the break.

Substitute George Danaher pulled a goal back for Huddersfield after 68 minutes, but that proved no more than a consolation effort.

The deserved victory saw Cardiff climb to seventh in the table.

Next up for Harvey’s side will be a home fixture against Hull City on Monday, September 11 (7pm).
