Andrew Lord’s Devils Ready For Challenge In Cup Quest

Cardiff Devils are keeping a tight grip on the Challenge Cup. Their 9-5 aggregate win against Guildford Flames swept coach Andrew Lord’s men into the semi-finals.

Devils have reached the final for three successive seasons, winning twice, and they are holders of a trophy they love to lift.

Captain Jake Morissette and his team won three championships last season – Elite League title, Cup and Erhardt Conference.

But they missed out on a fourth, the play-offs, in a heart-wrenching overtime battle during the final.

Welsh forward Matthew Myers in particular will be keen to win the Cup with Devils. Cardiff-born Myers played a key role for Devils when they won the trophy last season, beating Sheffield 3-2 in the final.

Paul Sullivan produced a great pre-game video for the Guildford Flames Challenge Cup quarter-final clash. Congratulations to

Myers, a former Nottingham player, has won the Challenge Cup seven times.

Devils are flying high again, stand of the League and play Guildford again in their next home match at Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff Bay.

That clash is on Sunday (6pm) and Flames will be hungry for revenge after their cup defeat.

Lord and his team will play Sheffield Steelers over two legs in the Cup semi-finals, while Nottingham Panthers take on Belfast Giants in the other half of the draw.

Dates for those matches are still to be finalised, but they will be organised quickly with the final being played at Ice Arena Wales on Sunday, March 4.

The Devils owners, who live in Calgary, will fly to the UK if the team overcome Steelers in the last four.
