Goalkeeper Alex Earns Last Gasp Joy For Caernarfon

Goalkeeper Alex Ramsey struck gold for Huws Gray Alliance leaders Caernarfon Town when he snatched an injury time equaliser at the Oval.

The Cofis were facing a home defeat against Rhyl when Ramsey dashed forward when his team were awarded a corner.

Nathan Craig lifted the ball into Rhyl’s penalty area and Ramsey forced it home to earn Caernarfon a 1-1 draw.

Manager Sean Eardley was ecstatic and tweeted: “when you ask players to dig deep and stick together, adopt the ‘never say die’ attitude, moments like this happen. Buzzing for @AlexRamsay2 and another point earned.”

Matthew Jones, newly-appointed Rhyl manager, says: “My players were superb and for 90 minutes it was perfect.

“Then it was spoiled at 90 plus one minute!

“They stuck at the job to a man and it was a solid defensive performance. Their goalkeeper went up to score – and that only happens once in 100 times.”

Former TNS and Llanelli goalkeeper Ramsey helped Rhyl earn promoted to the Welsh Premier League during his time at Belle Vue, while he has also played for Caersws and Chirk AAA.

He celebrated wildly when he plundered that injury time equaliser to keep Alliance leaders Caernarfon on track for the title and promotion.

Alun Webb scored for Rhyl after six minutes, firing home from a Jordan Barrow pass, while former Rhyl player Ramsey fired home and extended Caernarfon’s unbeaten run to 16 matches.

Sam Jones scored a hat-trick for second-placed Holywell Town in a 5-0 win against Ruthin at Halkyn Road, while Matty Harvey and Marc Gunther were their other scorers.
