Conwy Borough and Rhos Aelwyd are through to the FAW Trophy final.

They will battle it out in an all North Wales clash after earning victories in their semi-final ties.

Welsh Alliance leaders Conwy won 3-0 against Penydarren BGC, while Rhos Aelwyd, who are top of the Welsh National League, earned a 3-2 victory against a Greenfield team who finished with 10 players.

Penydarren BGC were unbeaten throughout the season until a week ago, but they have now lost against Bangor City in the JD Welsh Cup and Conwy in the FAW Trophy.

Manager Kerry Mullin and his Penydarren team will now concentrate on their number one target which is winning the South Wales Alliance title and promotion to the Welsh League.

They are also still involved in the Owen League Cup.

Conwy Borough secured their place in the final thanks to a three-goal victory.

Corey Williams opened the scoring for Borough after Penydarren goalkeeper Jonathan Green sprinted out of his penalty area  to intercept a pass. But he miscued and Conwy full-back Brendan Hogan swept ball across the area for Williams to fire home.

Corrig Mcgonigle doubled Conwy’s lead after cutting in from the right onto his favourited left foot before rifling a shot across Green and into the top left corner.

Penydarren threatened to get back into the game through efforts from Christopher Colvin and Scott Pike, but Conwy were always in control and clinched victory when substitute Dean Seager sidefooted home from a pin point cross by left-back Guto Hughes with five minutes left.

Rhos Aelwyd won a tense, competitive tie against Greenfield 3-2 after Scott Reeves scored from long range in the final minute to earn an excellent victory for the 2008 trophy winners.

Rhos went ahead when defender Tom Davies headed home in a crowded penalty area to give the Wrexham-based team a 1-0 lead after eight minutes.

Greenfield equalised when Darren Johns struck a direct free-kick past goalkeeper Steffan Parry.

A deep James Haynes corner after 75 minutes found the commanding Davies free at the far post and he scored his second of the game. Greenfield goalkeeper and captain Danny Stanton could do nothing to prevent the goal.

Greenfield responded positively and Tom Carney produced a run which caused chaos in the Rhos defence. The resulting mix-up led to Rhos substitute Denis Piliner being hit by a clearance and the ball ricocheted into the back of his own net to make it 2-2.

There was more late drama when Greenfield’s Darren Johns was sent off after 85 minutes for serious foul play before Reeves’ speculative free-kick from long range. Goalkeeper Stanton half saved, but could not stop the ball going in after 88 minutes.
