Bluebirds Slip Up In Severnside Derby Against Robins

Craig Bellamy’s young Bluebirds suffered their first defeat of the season when they travelled over the Severn Bridge to take on Bristol City and went down 1-0 at SGS College.

Coach Bellamy and his players went into the match boasting a 100 per cent record in Premier Development League Two South.

Cardiff had earned four wins from four fixtures before their trip to Bristol. They made two changes to their starting line-up with Ben Margetson and Sam Parsons called up.

Trystan Jones, Sion Spence and Daniel Griffiths scored during Cardiff’s 3-1 win against Hull City at home last time out, but Bellamy’s boys could not score against their Severnside rivals.

Isaak Davies went close after a brilliant run, shooting just wide with goalkeeper Will Buse struggling to save.

Griffiths forced Buse into a save before Bristol City went ahead with 33 minutes gone. Sam Pearson crossed picked out Marcus Day and he finished clinically from close range.

Cardiff made a double substitution after 65 minutes, sending on Eli King and Jac Davies for Rubin Colwill and Sam Parsons, while Ntazana Mayembe replaced Connor Davies 13 minutes later.

Bellamy’s under-18 Bluebirds entertain Crystal Palace at Cardiff International Sports Arena on Saturday, September 22 and they are again at home on Saturday, September 29, against Watford (both 11am).
