Captain Will’s Under-23 Bluebirds Slip Up Against Blues

Cardiff City 0, Birmingham City 1

Will Vaulks was named captain for Cardiff City in their Professional Under-23 Development League match against Birmingham City at Cardiff Sports Campus and Gary Madine led the attack.

But coach Andy Legg’s Bluebirds slipped up against the Blues with midfield playmaker John Concannon firing the Birmingham winner.

Worcestershire-born Concannon, aged 19, struck just before half-time and that proved to be the only goal of the match.

Madine went close with a shot from 15 yards, but goalkeeper Moha Ramos touched the ball wide. Centre-forward Madine had another first half effort saved by Ramos, a teenage goalkeeper signed on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

Ramos, a 19-year-old born on Tenerife, was in outstanding form for Birmingham, while Bluebirds ‘keeper Matt Hall made a series of quality saves.

Ciaron Brown defended well at the heart of the back four, while Jake Evans played a major role in midfield.

Former Auxerre midfield player Tavio d’Almeida suffered when he collided with Ramos. Both teenagers had treatment and were able to play on.

Eli King fired a late equaliser for Cardiff City in their Professional Under-18 Development League clash with Bristol City.

The match was played at Cardiff Sports Campus and the Bluebirds earned a point thanks to goals from Harry Pinchard and King.

Tommy Conway fired the Robins ahead after three minutes, dribbling past goalkeeper Jamie Cogan to fire into an empty net, and that was the only first half goal.

Pinchard equalised five minutes into the second half and he was denied a second on the hour by an outstanding save by goalkeeper Aaron Sainsbury.

Max Williams put Bristol City 2-1 ahead after 64 minutes, while King completed the scoring in the last minute. His shot took a major deflection and left goalkeeper Sainsbury helpless.
