Tesni Bows Out But Has Moved Towards World Elite

It wasn’t to be for Tesni Evans at the PSA World Squash Championships, but the Wales No 1’s performances in Manchester have proved she is closing in on the top players in the world. In reaching her first quarter-final at her seventh world championships, the Cardiff-born Evans provided the shock of the competition with her second round triumph over England No 1 and 2013 world champions Laura Massaro. She went into her quarter-final against Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb on a high, but wasn’t able to conjure up the same amount of magic as in her previous round and eventually fell 3-0 after 40 minutes, 11-9, 11-7, 11-9.

Dragons Swoop For Titanic Rhodri Davies

The Dragons are bringing back home another talented Welsh exile after signing Wales Sevens international Rhodri Davies for next season. The 25-year-old Pembrokeshire-born Rotherham Titans scrum half becomes the latest signing made by Bernard Jackman as he seeks to turn the Rodney Parade outfit into real contenders in the future. Davies joins Ross Moriarty, Jordan Williams and Rhodri Williams in committing his future to the Dragons from English clubs. Jackman doesn’t want to stop there as he scouts for Welsh qualified players and senior internationals George North and Ryan Bevington are on his radar.

Future Is Bright For Jake Heyward And James Tomlinson

European Junior 1500 metre champion Jake Heyward and Commonwealth Youth discus silver medallist James Tomlinson are among 21 athletes included on the British Athletics Futures Academy programme for 2018. The talented Welsh teenagers will benefit from a package of support for both themselves and their coaches as they attempt to progress to British Athletics’ World Class Programme. Heyward, now coached by James Thie, is one of four European Junior gold medallists included on the programme, joining Maya Bruney, Toby Harries, and Jemma Reekie. The Futures Programme – supported by Nike – aims to confirm athlete’s potential and transition onto the World Class Programme (WCP) in 2018-19 and support those who have highlighted their potential to win medals at future Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Meet Dai

Dai Sport is a fresh breath of Welsh sport with a fiery attitude.

We cover the whole range of Welsh sports with news, analysis and heated opinion. Nothing is off bounds, whether it’s on the field, the court, the race track, in the ring, or on the ice. Big or small, Dai watches all.

Our columnists can be passionate and persuasive, or calm and critical. But you won’t find them blowing smoke where there’s no fire. We don’t do clickbait, nasty pop-ups, or irritating auto-play videos.

Our writers and photographers are a broad mix of experienced journalists, young talent, budding bloggers, or just spreaders of the word about what’s going on in their sport. If you’d like to contribute to Dai Sport – on any sport, at any level – we’d love to hear from you.
