Matthew Stevens In Danger Of First Round Crucible Exit

Matthew Stevens has a mountain to climb to make the second round of the Betfred World Snooker Championship after Kyren Wilson took charge of their first-round clash. Carmerthen cueman Stevens, who came through three rounds of qualifying to reach the Crucible showpiece, looked comfortable enough in the early stages as the pair shared the opening two frames. matthew stBut Wilson – tipped by many as a potential world champion – showed why he has progressed to ninth in the world as breaks of 94 and 126 saw him open up a 7-2 lead after the first session.

Scarlets' Tadhg Beirne Admits Mighty Leinster "Didn't Give Us A Sniff"

Departing Scarlets forward Tadhg Beirne has admitted Leinster marginalised him from the action during their 38-16 hammering in Dublin on Saturday. Beirne has arguably been the player of the season for the Scarlets, but the Irishman admitted he was a peripheral figure during the one-sided European Champions semi-final where Scarlets hopes were crushed. The second row had hoped to be part of a Scarlets unit who would boss the breakdown, but he confessed they came nowhere near as Leinster eased to a comfortable five tries to one victory at the Aviva Stadium.

Steve Jones' Marathon Record Under Threat From Mo Farah

All good things must come to an end, but it has been a long run for Welsh marathon legend Steve Jones. His winning time in Chicago in 1985 of 2:07.13 has stood as the British record for more than 34 years, but will come under its most serious threat on Sunday at the London Marathon. It’s not that Mo Farah hasn’t tried to add it to his impressive collection of British records in the past, but this time it is for real. When he dabbled in 2014 he found it hard going, tougher than anything he had every done before.

Meet Dai

Dai Sport is a fresh breath of Welsh sport with a fiery attitude.

We cover the whole range of Welsh sports with news, analysis and heated opinion. Nothing is off bounds, whether it’s on the field, the court, the race track, in the ring, or on the ice. Big or small, Dai watches all.

Our columnists can be passionate and persuasive, or calm and critical. But you won’t find them blowing smoke where there’s no fire. We don’t do clickbait, nasty pop-ups, or irritating auto-play videos.

Our writers and photographers are a broad mix of experienced journalists, young talent, budding bloggers, or just spreaders of the word about what’s going on in their sport. If you’d like to contribute to Dai Sport – on any sport, at any level – we’d love to hear from you.
