Barker And Oliva Bag Medals

Elinor Barker struck double silver for Britain at the track World Cup meeting in Minsk.

And fellow Welsh rider Lewis Oliva added to the medal tally with bronze in Belarus.

Olympic team pursuit champ Barker began with seventh spot in the opening scratch race of the omnium.

The Cardiff-born rider turned up the pace in the tempo race however winning 11 of the sprint points and taking a lap and a 20 point bonus in the process.

Barker then finished third in the elimination race leaving her second overall behind Dutch rival Kirsten Wild going into the final event – the points race.

The duo each picked up points in a nip-and-tuck duel in the intermediate sprints.

And that left Wild in the gold medal spot just ahead of Barker with the USA’s Jennifer Valente taking bronze.

Barker’s gruelling day continued in the scratch race where she added her second silver.

Monmouthshire rider Oliva began with a dominant victory in his opening heat of the men’s keirin.

The 25-year-old was second in the second round to qualify for the final where he bagged his bronze behind Beat Cycling Club’s Matthijs Buchli and Stefan Ritter of Canada.
