Bluebirds Fixture At Derby Falls Victim To The Weather

Cardiff City’s Championship match at Derby County’s, which was scheduled for today, has been called off because of the bad weather.

The match at Pride Park was due to kick off at noon and was to be shown live on Sky Sports.

More than 2,600 Bluebirds fans were due to make the trip to Pride Park.

A tweet from the police said: “Today’s game has been cancelled due to weather conditions and safety concerns. Details to follow.”

A statement from the club said: “Following persistent heavy snowfall in Derby overnight, the surrounding areas at Pride Park Stadium have been left in an unsafe condition for supporters, staff and officials.”

Derby County have said a new match date will be announced via the club’s website.

A new date for the fixtures and further information regarding the postponement and ticket details for a rearranged fixture will be released in due course.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock would have been without Aaron Gunnarsson and Joe Ralls at Derby, but with are now likely to be fit when the game is played.

Craig Bryson will be ruled out because of a clause in the loan deal when Cardiff signed him from Derby for the season.

Gary Rowett, Derby’s manager, had talked of his respect for Warnock in a pre-match press conference, saying: “I have got him down at the moment as my manager of the year in this division.

“That is not taking anything away from Wolves because they have been fantastic also.

“I spoke to Neil in the summer and he said ‘I think this season is the most open the Championship has been’, and so he called it back then. He knew there was a chance for his type of side to get up there in the table.

“I really like Neil. I know he polarises opinion, but he is one that has always rang me. I have always had good conversations with him, he is just a down to earth guy.”

Cardiff’s next fixture is against Burton Albion at home on Friday, March 30 after the international break.

Neil Etheridge (Philippines), Marko Grujic (Serbia), Bruno Manga (Gabon), Callum Paterson (Scotland)  and Gunnarsson (Iceland) are among those on international duty.
