Former Cardiff City youth player Kane Owen fired Penybont FC’s winner in their JD Welsh Cup tie against Undy Athletic.
Defender Owen, 22, kept his cool to scored from a penalty during the last few seconds of the extra 30 minutes.
A few weeks earlier Penybont crushed Undy 8-1 in a league match at the Kymco Stadium, but the visitors were far more competitive in the cup tie.
There were few chances for either teams, although a Marcus Griffiths header just cleared the bar.
The decisive moment during extra time came when a shot struck the arm of an Undy defender and the referee awarded a spot kick.
Owen stepped up, stayed calm and sent Undy’s keeper the wrong way to score.
Penybont’s reward is a home tie against Monmouth Town in the second round.
Former Merthyr Town striker Josh Bull netted Cwmbran Celtic’s winner at Caerau (Ely).
It was the second time in a fortnight the teams had met. Celtic had won the first 5-0, but Caerau manager Nanah Bah had signed five new players and they were far more competitive.
Bull fired the winner when he ran onto a pass down the middle, drew the goalkeeper and scored with a clinical finish.
Llandudno Albion, who play in Welsh Alliance Division One, won 3-2 against four-times Welsh Cup winners Rhyl.
Ricky Jones scored a late winner for Llandudno at their Giant Hospitality Stadium, while Dave Maddock and Allan Davies were their other scorers. Mark Connolly and Olly Buckley netted for Rhyl.
Albion have been handed a trip to Buckley Town in the second round.
Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnaht of the Mid-Wales League earned a surprise win, beating Queens Park FC of the Cymru Alliance 3-0. Daniel Graham (2) and Iwan Matthews scored.
Berriew won 4-0 at Abermule with Richard Davies scoring a hat-trick, while Sam Jones (2), Will Ashley and Kevin Evans were on target for Ruthin Town at Meliden.
Llanelli Town won 6-1 at Aberaeron with Lee Trundle scoring four goals.
The lowest ranked side left in the competition, Machen AFC of the Gwent County League Division Two lost 4-3 away to Bridgend Street.
Saltney Town’s reward for beating Llanrwst United 6-0 is a derby clash at Airbus UK Broughton.
In the south, the three South Wales Alliance League sides left in the competition all have home ties.
Penydarren BGC host STM Sports, who put five past Afan Lido in round one, while Pencoed Athletic Amateur’s reward for knocking out Pontyclun is a home tie against Pontypridd Town.
Caerphilly Athletic are at home against Cymru Alliance Penrhyncoch.
