Craig Bellamy’s Young Bluebirds Win Severnside Derby

Sion Spence and Isaak Davies were the Cardiff City marksmen in their under-18 Professional Development League match against Bristol City.

Craig Bellamy’s young Bluebirds won the Severnside derby 2-0 at the USW Sports Park.

The next test for Cardiff’s young guns is against Coventry City at home on Thursday, November 16 (11.30am).

They will then go to Millwall on Saturday, November 25 and then play Charlton Athletic at home on Saturday, December 2 (both noon kick-off).

Cardiff won the under-18 Severnside derby thanks to a solid team display.

Sam Bowen went close on the counter-attack when he went for goal from 25 yards, but his low effort was narrowly wide.

Goalkeeper Warren Burwood produced a smart save from Vince Harper

Isaak Davies was unlucky not to give City the lead just after the half-hour when Spence played home through one-on-one, but Sainsbury made an outstanding save inside the box.

Winger Ricardo Rees hit a post with Cardiff keeper Burwood beaten after 51 minutes, while the Bluebirds took six minutes later.

Spence went past several defenders before firing home with a low shot at the near post from 10 yards for his ninth goal of the season.

He almost scored his second, but his powerful goalbound shot from 25 yards was blocked by Jack Spark.

Isaak Davies made it 2-0 after a surging run down the right, shooting low into the corner from close range.
