Great Scott: Davies Gets His Wish With Grand Tour Debut

Scott Davies will make his Grand Tour debut when he lines-up at the start of the Giro d’Italia in Bologna on Saturday.

The Carmarthen-born rider has been rewarded for a fine start to his season by being included in Team Dimension Data’s line-up for the three week race.

Davies has already ridden the Santos Tour Down Under in Australia, Paris-Nice and the Tour of Turkey this season as he looks to make an impact in the pro ranks.

Now the 23-year-old will have a crack at a full Grand Tour playing a key support role for the Africa-registered team.

‘Mr Nice’ Scott Davies Ready To Show True Grit On Grand Tour

Davies, who was the leading home finisher in last year’s Tour of Britain when he was 12th overall, admitted recently that his aim for this year was the Giro.

“It would be really nice to get a Grand Tour under my belt,” said Davies.

“Obviously my medium term goal is to get renewed or get another contract. My long term goals depend on that really.

“But I’d love to win a stage of a Grand Tour. Your goals are always evolving with you I guess, but that’s the goal I’ve set myself, to try and win a stage of a Grand Tour, that’s what I’d like to do one day.”
