Davies At The Double In Germany

Chaz Davies planned on celebrating with a beer and burger after powering to a World Superbikes double in Germany.

The Knighton-born rider followed up his win on Saturday by taking Sunday’s second race at the Lausitzring for his sixth win of the season.

It was the ninth double of the 30-year-old’s career – enough to earn a celebration in the nearby German capital.

Davies said: “To get a double win is awesome. I’ll have a burger and a few weiss beers in Berlin to celebrate.

“I knew the second race would be tight and it’s hard to come from the third row but I made up a lot of places in the first few laps.”

Davies had to start ninth on the grid under this season’s regulations following his victory on Saturday.

But within a few laps Davies had taken his Ducati up to third spot before producing two stunning moves to grab the lead.

The Andorra-based rider swept past aruba.it Racing team-mate Marco Melandri for second, then powered down the inside of Jonathan Rea to grab the lead.

Davies went on to win by just over two seconds from Kawasaki’s reigning two-time champ Rea with Melandri third.

The double left him still third in the standings with eight races left – 105 points behind Rea who looks certain to grab a third crown.

But he is within 35 points of second-placed Tom Sykes who finished a distant fourth on his Kawasaki.

Davies’ win was his third in four races and he will look to repeat last season’s form when from Germany he went on to win six races on the trot.
