Ruscoe Looking For His Saints To Finish In Style…And Send Out Welsh Cup Warning

The New Saints manager Scott Ruscoe says he wants his players to finish the season in style ahead of tonight’s final round of WPL fixtures (7.45).

With the title race already done and dusted, the champions host runners-up Connah’s Quay at Park Hall in what is a dress-rehearsal for next weekend’s Welsh Cup final.

“Connah’s Quay have pushed us all the way but we want to go out there and prove to be the best team on paper and on the pitch,” said Ruscoe.

“I can’t remember too many games here where they’ve taken too much out of it, whether that’s in possession or chances.

“We’re obviously in good form, we had another good win on the weekend, but we’re playing a strong team over the next couple of games so want to finish the season in style.”

Greg Draper’s 26 goals this season looks set to earn the league’s Golden Boot award for a successive year. The New Saints striker tops the scoring charts ahead of Carmarthen’s Liam Thomas (21 goals).

Caernarfon Town require a point at Bala Town to make sure of fourth-place and home advantage in the play-offs. Fifth-placed Newtown head to Barry Town United and trail by three points – the Robins need to snap their run of four-straight defeats to have any chance over overtaking the Cofis.

Christian Edwards could have a depleted squad to choose from ahead of Cardiff Met’s clash with bottom side Llanelli. The Archers clinched their play-off spot last weekend but have a number of injuries, as well an outbreak of Mumps in the campus to content with.

Carmarthen Town are already plotting for next season having agreed terms with a number of the current squad prior to facing Aberystwyth Town. Relegated Llandudno entertain Cefn Druids looking to appoint a new manager in the summer as part of their rebuild.

Congratulations to Airbus UK and Penybont who’re have been crowned champions respectively in the Cymru Alliance and Welsh League and have secured promotion into the top-flight next season.
