Former Swan Angel Rangel Joins QPR

Former Swansea City stalwart Angel Rangel has joined Queens Park Rangers after being let go from the Liberty Stadium at the end of last season.

The Spanish defender, who spent 11 years with the Swans, has signed for their Championship rivals on a short five-month contract.

Angel, 35, made 374 appearances for Swansea before he was released just before the arrival of manager Graham Potter earlier in the summer.

Once a fixture at right-back, he had slipped down the pecking order behind Conor Roberts and Kyle Naughton.

But after spending last month training with QPR he has now been offered a deal and will offer experience in the absence of injured full-back Darnell Furlong.

“I had a phone call from the manager (Steve McClaren) saying he was looking for some experience,” said Rangel.

“I think the main word used was experience. He wants to use my Premier League experience as an important part of our game.

“I want to use every single weapon I have to help the team achieve their targets. I’ve seen lots of talent in training – from what I have seen we can only get better.

“I know I am not 20 anymore, but when you have been in the British game for so long, you gain experience and I think that’s what I can contribute day in, day out.

“I am delighted to be here and I hope I can help as much as I can.”

Rangel helped the Swans to promotion from League One in his first season with the club, and was also part of the squad that went up to the Premier League in 2011 and won the League Cup in 2013.

However, the experienced full-back made just four league appearances for the Liberty Stadium club last term as they were relegated from the Premier League.
