Hit-man Lee Trundle On Target For Half Century Of Llanelli Town Goals

Former Swansea City striker Lee Trundle is leading Llanelli Town in a Welsh League and cup double bid.

Scouser Trundle came out of retirement last August to sign for Second Division Llanelli and he’s fired 45 goals in 26 appearances.

That haul includes eight hat-tricks.

The 40-year-old, who also played for Wrexham and Bristol City, has been a key player in Llanelli’s promotion charge.

They have won the Division Two title and will return to the top flight of Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League football next season.

Llanelli still have three away fixtures to play, against Dinas Powys on Saturday (2.30pm) plus Abergavenny Town and Ammanford.

They are also through to the Nathaniel Cars League Cup final and face Cardiff’s Bridgend Street in the final at Briton Ferry FC on Friday, May 12 (7pm).

Those fixtures will give Trundle the chance to top 50 goals for the season.

While Llanelli go for a double, Barry Town United are ready for their own celebrations.

They have won Welsh League Division One and complete their fixtures with a home match against Ton Pentre at Jenner Park on Saturday (2.30pm).

Barry are champions for the first time since 1994 and clinched the title thanks to a 1-0 win at Cambrian and Clydach with TJ Nagi scoring the only goal.

Jubilant lifted manager Gavin Chesterfield into the air and the champagne flowed.

Barry will be presented with the League trophy at Jenner Park on Saturday and it’s fitting that Rhondda Bulldogs Ton Pentre are the visitors.

It was during May 2013 that Barry supporters turned up at the stadium to watch the final home match of their Division One season, against Ton Pentre.

But the game did not go ahead after Barry were withdrawn from the Welsh football pyramid a few hours before kick-off.

Barry were given the go-ahead to re-enter Welsh League at Third Division level after a court case – and they have earned three promotions and three titles in four seasons.

On Saturday, at last, Barry Town and Ton Pentre, who have been crowned Welsh League champions 13 times, can go head-to-head at Jenner Park.

Next season Barry Town will represent the biggest town in Wales at Welsh Premier League level.

Entry to the last Welsh League match between Barry and Ton Pentre on Saturday (2.30pm) is £5 with the regular concessions for senior citizens, students and children.

Bridgend area club Penybont are second in the Division One table and look set to finish runners-up.

They have won 2-1 against Goytre FC, their main rivals for second spot, and 2-0 at Goytre United in their latest fixtures.

That clash with Goytre FC at the KYMCO Stadium was a third-v-second match.

After nine minutes Barry referee Ashley Davies awarded Goytre a penalty when he penalised Penybont player-manager Rhys Griffiths for a foul.

Goytre’s Josh Brown took the penalty and Penybont goalkeeper Rhys Wilson made a save low down to his right.

Penybont went ahead after 42 minutes when a shot by Adam Carpenter was deflected into the path of Marcus Griffiths, who scored his 21st goal of the season.

Lewis Sommers equalised for Goytre in the second half before Penybont snatched victory when Owain Warlow fired home a minute from time.

The win lifted Penybont above Goytre FC into second spot.

Penybont: Rhys Wilson, James Parry, Kane Owen, Adam Carpenter, Tom Atyeo, Rhys Griffiths, Owain Warlow, Cullen Kinsella, Kostya Georgievsky (Ioan Emanuel 84), Marcus Griffiths, Josef Hopkins. Subs not used: Billy Borge, Tom Davies, Rhys Jordan.
