Kiran Carlson In A Hurry To Give Glamorgan Rapid Start

Kiran Carlsen will be licking his lips at the prospect of tearing into the Gloucestershire bowling when Glamorgan kick-off their Specsavers County Championship in Bristol on Friday.

The 19-year-old ended last summer on a real high with a knock of 191 against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens and will be looking to pick up where he left off. Already Glamorgan’s youngest first-class centurion with his three-figure score against Essex in September, 2016, he was nine runs short of adding the double-century mark to his growing reputation.

The former Whitchurch HS product is named in a 12 man Glamorgan squad that will head over the Severn Bridge. Michael Hogan returns to captain the side after taking over the helm midway through last season.

Aussie import Shaun Marsh is included in the squad and is set to make his County Championship debut for Glamorgan after arriving in Cardiff earlier in the week.

“We missed the first round of games and we know Gloucestershire had a good win, so it’ll be a good challenge for us. The boys can’t wait to get out there,” said Hogan.

The squad includes eight Glamorgan pathway players, including Nick Selman, who scored four centuries in last season’s County Championship as he finished as the Welsh county’s leading run-scorer in the competition.

Having ended last season;s championship with a draw against Gloucestershire and then a five wicket win over Kent in Canterbury, Hogan will be hoping his side can maintain that late momentum.

“I’ve said it before and without sounding like a broken record, it’s a work In progress. We expect some good results and I’m sure we will have some inconsistencies along the way but I think we’ll have a lot of improvement through our group and noticeable improvement for the fans this year,” added Hogan.
