Lee Peltier In Hot Weather Training For New Bluebirds Season

Lee Peltier, Cardiff City’s tough, resilient defender, is working to ensure he is 100 per cent ready for the 2017-18 Championship season.

The former Leicester City and Leeds United player, 30, hired a personal trainer while he has been on holiday in Santa Ponsa.

Peltier has worked out with trainer Paul Hamilton during his stay in Majorca, running up and down hills in the area three times a day and training at a local gymnasium.

He was out injured for some time during the latter stages of last season and is keen to ensure he is ready to go in pre-season training.

Liverpool-born Peltier has underlined his commitment to Cardiff, signing a two-year extension to his contract.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here and hopefully I enjoy it even more next season,” says Peltier. “I’m delighted to extend my stay.

“You can see what the manager (Neil Warnock) has done since he came in and he wants to have a good go at it next season.

“That was a massive influence on me putting pen to paper as I’ve bought in to what he wants to do. I’m looking forward to getting going again.

“I’d be disappointed if we’re not up there contending with the play-offs, I think towards the back end of last season you could see what we’re about and we’re not that far off.

“He’s going to add a few more players to the squad that will improve us so it should be a good season.”

Warnock has agreed new contracts with Peltier and Junior Hoilett, who has signed a one-year deal.

Striker Kenneth Zohore signed a new contract in April, while Warnock has signed goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

City are poised to sell Declan John, Craig Noone and Anthony Pilkington, while forward Frederic Gounongbe could make the move to Kortrijk.

Gounongbe made 11 appearances for Cardiff last season, but didn’t feature for the Bluebirds after Cardiff’s 0-0 draw against Brighton.

The Bluebirds have been linked with moves for Cardiff-born Joe Ledley, who is out of contract at Crystal Palace, plus striker Danny Ward, who played under Warnock at Rotherham.

Both are deals which could well be completed with Ledley keen on a return to South Wales and relegated Rotherham willing to sell a forward who is entering the final year of his contract.

Bookies have listed Cardiff as favourites to sign former Liverpool and Blackpool player Charlie Adam, who is out of contract at Stoke City.

Cardiff have added a pre-season fixture against Shrewsbury Town away to their schedule. That match will be at Greenhouse Meadow, Shrewsbury on Tuesday, July 25 (7pm).
