Legg, Nugent, Pilkington Take On U-23 Challenge

Millwall 1, Cardiff City 1

Former Bluebirds Andy Legg and Kevin Nugent went head-to-head at under-23 level in London.

Anthony Pilkington, aged 29, joined the party when he fired a second half equaliser for Cardiff City in this Premier Development League Two match.

Legg coaches the Cardiff development team, working alongside Jarred Harvey, while Nugent is in charge of Millwall’s young players.

Pilkington was included as an over-age player along with goalkeeper Lee Camp and Matt Connelly.

Mahlon Romeo scored for Millwall soon after 54 minutes, while Pilkington replied with a stunning strike just before the hour.

His shot curled past goalkeeper Dave Martin from 25 yards – and ‘Pilks’ almost grabbed a late winner when a fierce shot was turned over the bar by the keeper.

Jamie Veale and James Waite started in midfield for City, while Tyrone Duffus, Connor Young and Matthew Connolly lined-up at the back in front of Lee Camp’s goal.

Millwall dominated the early stages and were close to taking the lead after seven minutes. Canadian winger Kris Twardek saw his left footed strike crash against the woodwork before being cleared.

Cardiff are fifth in the table and their next match is against Watford at Cardiff City Stadium next Monday (7pm).
