Leroy Fer Urges Swans To Send Cheer To Martin Olsson

Leror Fer has urged Swansea City to send a three-points get well message to Martin Olsson by beating Sheffield Wednesday at the Liberty Stadium.

Sweden defender Olsson has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon at Brentford last week.

It is an injury that Fer is all too familiar with after suffering the same setback earlier this year, which resulted in six months on the sidelines.

“This is our first game without Martin so, whether he’s at the game or not, we have to try to win for him,” said Fer.

“You never want a player to suffer a long-term injury. I had the same injury, so that made me feel even worse for him because I know exactly what he’s going through.

“He’s one of our most experienced players and also one of the hardest workers in the team.

“Whenever he needs me, I’ll be here for him – not just because I’m the captain, but also because I know exactly what he’s going through.

“Hopefully, he can recover quickly and come back stronger than ever.”

Swansea are sweating on the fitness of Wilfried Bony before finalising their team to face the Owls.

The Ivory Coast striker, who has been restricted to three appearances this season, is doubtful due to tightness in a calf muscle.

Courtney Baker-Richardson (ankle), Daniel James (hamstring) and Tom Carroll (groin) are also out, but Dutch winger Luciano Narsingh is back in contention after a hamstring problem.

Wednesday will be without suspended midfielder Barry Bannan. Bannan begins a two-match ban after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season during last weekend’s draw with Rotherham.

Owls forward Fernando Forestieri (hamstring) remains unavailable to under-pressure manager Jos Luhukay. Midfielder Kieran Lee (knee) and strikers Gary Hooper (groin) and Sam Winnall (hamstring) are long-term absentees.
