Llanelli Town On Course For Title And Unbeaten 2016-17 Record

Llanelli Town are still on course to go through the 2016-17 Welsh League season unbeaten.

They have already achieved their main aim of promotion and need one more win from five matches to be sure of being crowned Division Two champions.

Llanelli have won 18 and drawn seven of their 25 fixtures so far and have a goal difference of plus 62 which is vastly superior to any of their rivals.

The Reds are also through to the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup final, playing Bridgend Street next month, and are aiming to complete an unbeaten run of 41 matches in the two competitions.

That would be a fitting tribute to the hard work of management team Andy Hill, Mark Dickeson and Andrew Mumford plus the players.

Llanelli won 1-0 against Garden Village at Stafford Common in their latest match when Jordan Follows scored the only goal after 14 minutes. He fired a volley past goalkeeper Rhys Owen after good work by Liam Samuel and Lee Trundle.

Another landmark was achieved by Chris Thomas, who made his 300th appearance for Llanelli.

During first half injury time Llanelli had an opportunity to double the lead when Follows was brought down in the area after Trundle put him through. The spot-kick, taken by Trundle, was kept out on the line by the ‘keeper – the second time this season the former Swansea City striker has failed to convert.

Trundle also lobbed Owen during the second half and the goal was initially given before the officials decided the Llanelli man had been offside.
