Matthew Williams, Llantrisant SRC’s number one, is top seed for the Ross Scaccia Open being played at Llanishen Leisure Centre and St Mellons Country Club this weekend.

Williams plays Connor Hall in his opening match and the winner will take on Andy Stancaitis or Owen Heyes.

James Powell, from host club Llanishen is second seed for the A event and he has been drawn against Bevan Duff with Scott Wright or Alex Rowlands awaiting the winner. 

Rhiwbina Squash Club’s Simon Dews is the defending champion and he has been drawn against tournament organiser Stuart Divry (Llanishen).

The player who comes through that first round clash will face Owain Bass or 16-year-old Bronte Wright.

Winners in the first Ross Scaccia Open last year were Dews, Justin Nemeth (B event), Chi Yau (C event) and Les Stamp (D event) – and Dews lifted the main trophy by winning his final against Gary Fry in straight games for the loss of 20 points.

The Scaccia Open is the only Welsh ranking tournament where all profit goes to charity. The Scaccia family have again chosen the British Heart Foundation as the tournament charity.

The tournament is played at the two clubs Ross played at – Llanishen and St Mellons – on Friday, April 26, Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.

Ross passed away, aged 66, in December, 2017 and a tournament was first organised in his memory last year.

The fifth annual Llantrisant Open Squash Championships are to be held in June.

Llantrisant are organising their tournament for Friday, June 21 to Sunday, June 23.

England’s Richie Fallows and Barcelona-born Edmon Lopez, who plays for Premier League team Welsh Wizards, are top seeds for the third annual PSA Welsh Open at Rhiwbina SRC. 

The championships start on Tuesday, May 7 and finish on Saturday, May 11.

There are four Welsh players in the Welsh Open draw – Peter Creed, Emyr Evans, Morris Devred and University of Nottingham student Owain Taylor.

Eleven countries are represented through the first round draw and they are England, Spain, France, Finland, Croatia, Spain, Italy, India, Pakistan and Germany and Wales.

The top four seeds are all ranked inside the World’s top 100 players.
