Cardiff University law student Lowri Roberts retained the South Wales Squash Championship ladies A final in a repeat of last seasons final.

Roberts, the World number 156 from Bodelwyddan in North Wales, won 15-13, 11-7, 2-11, 9-11, 11-8 in the final against Mid Glamorgan player Ciara Richards at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

The 21-year-old Roberts is ranked second in Wales behind British champion Tesni Evans, who is based in Rhyl and plays for Professional Superleague club Welsh Wizards.

Her opponent in the final, teenager Ciara Richards, who is from Aberdare and a former Pontypridd High School pupil, is ranked number five in Wales.

Lewis Poole, the Welsh under-19 number one from Caerphilly, won his first senior tournament, beating Luke Bishop in the South Glamorgan men’s A final.

Poole, aged 17, defeated number one seed Luke Bishop in the final 11-9, 11-5, 11-7, having won a five-game thriller against second seed Liam Eason in the last four.

Poole kept his nerve to win that final against Eason 6-11, 11-0, 12-10, 7-11, 17-15.
