Martyrs Break Down On Way To League Fixture

Merthyr Town were forced to call off their EvoStik Southern League trip to Buckinghamshire on Tuesday when the team coach broke down.

The Martyrs were on their way to play Beaconsfield Town when they were left with no way of completing their journey.

“This evenings game against Beaconsfield Town FC has been called off due to the team coach breaking down on route to the game,” tweeted the Martyrs.

“A date for the rearranged fixture will be decided upon in due course and announced as soon as possible.”

Merthyr still have eight games left – four at home and four away – and are home against bottom team Staines Town at the MetCoaches Stadium, Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday.

Surrey-based Staines, nicknamed the Swans, are bottom of the Southern League Premier Division South, 21 points behind the next club above them, and have already been relegated.

Staines have earned four wins in 35 fixtures and have a goal difference of minus 82.
