Martyrs’ Captain And Assistant Manager Sent Off Away

Merthyr Town had captain Ashley Evans and assistant manager Dean Clarke sent off during their goalless draw against Dorchester Town at Clayson Stadium.

Dorchester kept a clean sheet for the first time in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South this season.

Home goalkeeper Kingsley Latham made two outstanding first half saves before substitute Tom Blair failed to scored from the best chance of the match.

The Martyrs were without Kerry Morgan and Kyle Patten, both serving suspensions, while former Swansea City player Owain Jones was in their squad after international clearance was granted following his transfer from Nuneaton.

Ian Traylor and Tom Meechan were lively in the Merthyr attack, while Jarrad Wright went close early on. He headed over from a Traylor free-kick.

Lee Lucas went for goal and his effort was pushed away by goalkeeper Kingsley Latham.

Dorchester’s first chance came when striker Ben Seymour ran clear and lobbed goalkeeper Joe Perry, but his effort flew over the bar.

Lucas went close again when a cross from the left picked him out. His shot, from 15 yards, was saved by Latham, who is playing for Dorchester on loan from Southampton.

Connor Young also went close for the Martyrs when he volleyed over from Traylor’s corner.

The two captains, Neil Martin and Methyr’s Evans, clashed in a scuffle and that led to the Martyrs being reduced to 10 players. Evans was booked for the second time and sent off.

Referee Colin Hubbard also cautioned assistant manager Clarke when he protested and sent him to the stand.

Martyrs almost had a big finish when Lucas went for goal, bur his effort hit a post.
