New Injury Threat For Gareth Bale As Madrid Show Cut Short

Gareth Bale has picked up another injury playing for Real Madrid that threatens to further disrupt his season in Euro finals year.

The Wales star has an ankle problem which forced him to leave the field during his club’s victory over Unionistas de Salamanca, 3-1, in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.

Bale scored the opening goal but was unable to continue beyond the 53rd minute and manager Zinedine Zidane said the new injury will need to be assessed.

“He’s twisted his ankle a bit,” Zidane admitted after the victory.

“I don’t think it’s much but, as always, we’ll see tomorrow. He couldn’t go on.”

Bale has battled injury and illness this season and was making his first appearance since the La Liga victory against Getafe on January 4.

Since Wales beat Hungary to clinch their place at this summer’s European Championship finals, he has only played eight games for his club.

Reports have claimed Tottenham are looking to re-sign Bale but will only pay a £25million transfer fee.

Bale’s agent has already ruled out a loan move for the 30-year-old, who remains under contract with the La Liga side until 2022.

Bale, who made his name with Spurs before he completed a then-world record £85m move to the Bernabeu in 2013, has since been linked with a return to north London.

Spanish reports claimed Spurs manager Jose Mourinho was keen to bring back the winger, but won’t pay more than £25m.

Bookies suspended betting on Spurs re-signing Bale but his agent has insisted any talk of a loan to the Premier League is out of the question.
