Penybont FC Power To Away Victory At Port Talbot

Penybont FC maintained their challenge near the top of Welsh League Division One with a 2-0 away win against Port Talbot Town.

Bridgend-based Penybont are fourth in the table with a game in hand on leaders Haverfordwest County.

Adam Carpenter and Billy Borge scored for the winners to make it a good day for manager Rhys Griffiths and his players.

Marcus Griffiths ghosted into the right-hand side of the penalty area and pulled the ball back for Carpenter to drill the ball past goalkeeper Rory McCreesh.

Penybont continued to dominate and extended their lead just before half-time when Borge 20 yards out fired his shot low into the corner.

Port Talbot worked hard in the second half and won a penalty when former Penybont player Jon Hood was brought down.

Hood took the penalty himself, but Penybont captain Rhys Wilson dived low to his right and turned the ball around a post.

Wilson was in unbeatable form and showed why he is arguably the best keeper in Welsh League football.

Elliot Ford scored twice for Monmouth Town in their 2-1 win against Briton Ferry Llansawel

Afan Lido defeated Ton Pentre 4-2 in a hard fought game.

Josh Doyle was sent off early in the game, but 10-man Lido controlled the game and emerged convincing winners.

Mark Jones put Afan Lido ahead from a penalty, but within a minute Ton equalised.

Carlos Indjai put Lido ahead from a far post header only for Ton to square matters within a minute again.

The home team took the lead for a third time just before half-time when Indjai was on target.

Elliot Thomas should have scored their fourth, but failed to take his chance and it was Kieran Cullen eventually made it 4-2.

Leaders Haverfordwest County won 7-1 against Goytre United at Glanhafod Stadium.

Dan Williams (2), Joe Leahy (2), Ricky Watts, Steffan Williams and Leon Luby were the County scorers.

Llanelli Town AFC won again to stay just behind Haverfordwest with a game in hand. Joe Clarke and Chris Jones scored for Llanelli in a 2-1 win at Cerau Ely.
