Power Boosts Hopes Of Landing Legends Crown

Ben Power has extended his lead in the MRF National Legends Car Championship after winning three races in the two-day meeting at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

Power, aged 27, from Guilsfield, near Welshpool, won both of Saturday’s heats and the second race on Sunday, as the spectacular series made its first visit to Cadwell in three years.

He also recorded the fastest lap in several races and came within 0.2 seconds of the lap record, set in 2014.

After setting the pace in qualifying, Power led the first heat from start to finish, but had to work harder in the second – charging from the back to take the lead from Jack Parker on the penultimate lap.

His win on Sunday was a similar story – working his way into the top five by lap four, he still had a 3.5 second gap to make up.

Speed and track-craft helped him to third place a lap later, before eventually passing Parker to take the chequered flag.

Sunday’s final race was red flagged after a three-car tangle in the early stages, and before the restart a brief but heavy downpour left a very slippery track.

The race developed into a five-car battle, which eventually saw Power finished third behind defending national champion and former world champion, John Mickel, and Parker – the three separated by just 0.1 seconds.

“It was another really good weekend,” said Power. “Things have been falling into place, and I’m very pleased with another three wins from the weekend.

“It’s a great feeling to be top of the championship standings, but there’s a long way to go yet, and a lot can happen.”
