The weather was the only winner as the NatWest T20 Blast game between Glamorgan and the Sussex Sharks ended as a no result at The Swalec Stadium with just eight overs possible on a wet evening in Cardiff.
The Welsh county are currently in fourth place in the table, whilst the Sharks – who defeated leaders Hampshire last night at the Ageas Bowl – are languishing in eighth.
The two sides met on July 9th at Arundel Castle with a record-breaking 46 ball hundred by Colin Ingram laying the foundations of an 18-run victory for Glamorgan, who had one enforced change to their line-up with Nick Selman replacing the injured David Lloyd.
After opting to bowl first, Michael Hogan opened the bowling with Chris Nash smearing him through point for four, but Marchant de Lange removed Luke Wright with his third ball as the centurion from Arundel was caught at mid-on.
Phil Salt began with a pair of rasping drives for four, but de Lange struck again with his sixth ball as Nash edged a pull into Cooke’s gloves.
Salt then scooped de Lange for six over mid-wicket before peppering the ball to mid-on for four. Taylor then deftly steered Craig Meschede to third man for another boundary, before swatting Graham Wagg’s first ball for six to square-leg.
The Kiwi did the same to Meschede to bring up the fifty stand followed by another swipe to fine-leg for four, and a firm on-drove for four later in the over.
But the drizzle which had been falling then intensified as the players left the field with the Sharks on 87/2 after 8 overs. The rain continued and at 9.20pm the umpires abandoned the contest with no time possible for a 5 over game.
Glamorgan captain Jacques Rudolph said: “It wasn’t ideal, the umpires did a good job getting us onto the field and if you look at the scorecard of just over ten runs an over, we would have backed ourselves to give a good opportunity to win this game.
“A bit hit and miss (with the ball), but Salt played really well. He ran at Marchant who bowls quickly and hit him nicely, so credit to them.
“Overall we’ve been playing some good cricket and there’s a good spirit in our environment, so it would be nice to get in a full game on Sunday (at home to Essex).”
