Robins Dent Llandudno’s Top Six Hopes

Llandudno’s hopes of reaching the top-six were setback after they were defeated by Newtown on Thursday night.

Shaun Cavanagh’s clinical volley handed Llandudno a deserved equaliser in the second-half but Newtown were able to restore their lead when Joe Kenton’s low drive crept into the corner.

Newtown, looking to respond to their WPL defeat to Aberystwyth, have now rallied to three wins from their last four to push them up the table. Llandudno sit in seventh-place trailing Bala Town, sixth, by two points despite having now played two games more.

With an unspectacular first-half coming to a close, an unconventional clearance from Jolyon Harries released Luke Boundford, who took the ball calmly intro his stride before despatching a cute angled finish over former Robins goalkeeper Dave Roberts.

In the second period saw Llandudno gain plenty of possession inside the Newtown half but clear cut chances remained at a premium for Iwan Williams’ side.

Defender Mike Williams glazed a header wide when having a clear sight of goal to sum up Llandudno’s frustrations before second-half substitute Shaun Cavanagh produced a moment of quality to restore parity.

James Joyce’s delivery from the left found Cavanagh unmarked at the back post and the 19-year-old made no mistake as he unleashed a devastating volley into the net on 63 minutes.

With the game finally poised, both sides make attacking substitutions in search of a second goal.

A failed clearance inside the Llandudno goalmouth saw Jamie Reed’s target-bound attempt deflect wide before Robins substitute Joe Kenton secured the Robins all three points with first meaningful contribution, cutting in on his favoured right-foot from the left touchline and sending a low effort into the bottom with Dave Roberts screened.

The young winger then almost carved out a third for the hosts when he picked out Nick Rushton who drew a fine save from Roberts.
