Two up-and-coming Welsh athletes will represent Great Britain Under-20s team at the Halle International Throws event in Germany this weekend.

It will be the second time in a week Sarah Omoregie and James Tomlinson have pulled on GB vests, having been part of the junior team which took part in the Loughborough International last weekend.

Tomlinson finished fifth in the men’s discuss at Loughborough with a throw of 54.97m, behind Welsh brothers Brett Morse, who won the event, and Jay Morse, who was third. Omoregie finished fourth in the women’s shot put event with a throw of 14.49m.

In Germany, Omoregie will throw in the women’s U20 shot put and Tomlinson in the men’s U20 discus. Both are chasing qualifying marks for the IAAF World Junior Championships.

Omoregie, of Cardiff AAC has already represented GB on foreign soil in 2018, competing in the shot at the Liera Throws event in March, where she threw a PB 15.09m.

Pembrokeshire Harrier Tomlinson is also in good form, having thrown a 57.81m  PB at the Carmarthen Throws Open in late April.

Last year, both Omoregie and Tomlinson represented Wales at the Junior Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas, where they both picked up silver medals.

Peter Stanley, Head of Field and Combined Events at British Athletics said: “The Halle Competition is a highly rated and a world-renowned event, so I am pleased to once again send a strong team of British throwers.

“On the eve of a busy summer, this will be a perfect opportunity for our senior and age-group athletes to perform against some of the best competitors on the continent, providing solid preparations for the upcoming months.”

The senior GB team for the Halle event includes the likes of hammer throwers Sophie Hitchon, who won a bronze at the Rio Olympics;  Mark Dry, who won bronze at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Nick Miller – the gold medallist in Australia.
