Under-23 match action: Cardiff City's Dan Griffiths (9) goes close. Griffiths has scored 27 goals for the Bluebirds' under-18 team this season.

Second Successive Win, Clean Sheet For Cardiff Youth

Cardiff City earned a second successive Professional Development Under-23 League win, beating Queens Park Rangers 3-0 at home.

Sion Spence, Danny Williams and Dan Griffiths scored at the Cardiff International Sports Campus.

The young Bluebirds had defeated Millwall 1-0 away in their previous fixture with Lloyd Humphries scoring the only goal.

City bid for a third consecutive win when they play Sheffield United at Cardiff City Stadium next Monday, March 4 (7pm).

Team coaches Jarred Harvey and Andy Legg made two changes to the starting line-up with goalkeeper Warren Burwood and Sion Spence both returning.

Cardiff also included senior first team midfield player Stuart O’Keefe, who played an influential role in the victory.

Full-back Ryan Pryce went close after 34 minutes made a run to the far post and was picked out by Laurence Wootton’s cross. But his volley flew wide.

Two goals in two minutes put the Bluebirds on top.

Spence timed his run to perfection and was picked out by a kicked clearance from goalkeeper Warren Burwood after 51 minutes. The first touch by Spence was sublime and he stroked a shot past goalkeeper Myles Bowman as he ran out to try and block.

The ball bounced past Bowman and into goal with Danny Williams running through to make sure. The shot had already crossed the line and Spence was awarded the goal.

Soon after O’Keefe swung a cross to the far post and Trystan Jones headed back across goal to set up former Haverfordwest County striker Williams, who swept his shot into the unguarded net from close range.

Williams almost added another goal moments later. The forward latched onto a through pass but fired over from an acute angle inside the penalty area.

The Bluebirds completed the three-goal win after 80 minutes when O’Keefe picked out Griffiths and the number nine kept his composure to fired into the bottom far corner.
