Slade Frustrated As City Drop Two Points In Play-offs Push

By Joe Richards

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade was left frustrated by a 0-0 draw with QPR and unhappy his side did not get a penalty.

The draw left the Bluebirds still in seventh place five points behind play-off rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

But Slade insisted City should have been handed a spot-kick when Anthony Pilkington was wrestled to the ground by centre-back Grant Hall.

He said: “There was an unbelievable penalty shout when he just wrestled Pilkington down.

“I can’t understand why we don’t get those. It was an incredible one for me.

“I am not one who moans too much about decisions which go the wrong way, because over a season they even themselves out.

“But when it looks such an obvious one, I get a little bit more upset. I felt that one was a really obvious shout for us with four minutes to go.

“I think you’ve got to give credit to QPR. They came with a good attitude, made it difficult for us to play between them by blocking passing lanes and were nice and solid.

“We gained momentum in the second period and I thought we played with more purpose and more intent.

“We applied more pressure in and around the box, we put them under the cosh and their only hope looked like a counter attack when we threw bodies forward.

“And from the work we did I thought we thoroughly deserved a goal.”

In a largely uneventful game, which saw the first shot on target come just after half-time, the best chances came late in the second period.

Pilkington went close with a header before Craig Noone’s effort was tipped superbly over the bar by debut goalkeeper Matt Ingram.
As Slade made substitutions the home side pushed forward even more.
Kenneth Zohore, a replacement for Lex Immers, had a shot cleared off the line while Sean Morrison saw his header drop wide in the last action of the game.

City face Brentford on Tuesday with Slade admitting they probably need to win their last four games to stand any chance of making the play-offs.

He added: “We go to Brentford now needing a positive result and then we have Bolton at home when Wednesday go to Derby.

“We might have to win the lot now. It is a hell of an ask but it’s not impossible.”
