Lee Selby lost his IBF world featherweight title after a shock defeat against Josh Warrington at Elland Road in Leeds. The Barry fighter was beaten in a split decision 116-112 115-113 113-115 after a bruising battle.
Charlotte Arter booked her place on Britain’s European Championships team with a stunning 10,000m personal best on Saturday. The Cardiff AAC runner clocked 32minutes 15.71 seconds when finishing third at the European 10,000m Cup and British Championships in London.
Torfaen Tigers won their second game in a row in the Welsh Premier League but they were given a scare in the first half by a competitive Llanelli Knights side, playing in the first game at senior level after replacing West Wales Raiders in the competition. Bridgend Athletic are looking to hold onto their Principality National Youth League title this weekend (Saturday) as they take on Pontypridd at Rodney Parade (7.00pm). Having successfully retained their Ospreys A league crown, the Bridgend side duly saw off Scarlets regional champions Crymych 33-19 in Carmarthen to make it back-to-back finals. If they can hold onto their title it would be the perfect tribute to Bridgend Athletic co-founder Clive Easterbrook, who died earlier this month and was laid to rest this week.
Rob Evans says the Scarlets are driven by a thirst for revenge as they prepare to head back to Dublin next weekend. The Wales prop was a tryscorer as his team outclassed Glasgow, 28-13, at Scotstoun in a devastating display of counter-punching rugby to win their Guinness Pro14 play-off semi-final. It means another visit to the Aviva Stadium for the final, scene of their Pro12 title triumph last year, but where they also came to grief against Leinster, 38-16, in last month's European Champions Cup semi-final.
