Warren Gatland Says TMO Delays Are The Price To Be Paid For Accuracy. . . And Coaches Keeping Their Jobs

Warren Gatland believes TMO verdicts have to be accurate – even if it means long delays for supporters and armchair viewers. The Wales coach was on the wrong end of a disputed call from television match official Glenn Newman during his team’s Six Nations defeat to England at Twickenham where a Gareth Anscombe try-scoring effort was denied. World Rugby later declared that Newman had made an error and the New Zealander was criticised by some for not taking longer in reaching his decision by examining all available replays.

Small Margins In Big Wins For Penarth

Penarth Hockey Club’s two most senior sides clinched vital victories by a single goal at the weekend, strengthening their position in their respective GoCrea8 League divisions.

Former Wales Students Prop Ian Williams Dies After Collapsing In Training

Former Wales Students international Ian Williams, a cornerstone in three of Oxford University’s record run of six Varsity Match wins, has died at the age of 27 after collapsing in training. The ex-Swansea University history graduate, who played in the Welsh Varsity Match against Cardiff before heading to Oxford, collapsed while training with English Championship side Doncaster Knights on Tuesday. He could not be resuscitated. “It is with great sadness that Doncaster RFC announces the passing of prop forward Ian Williams. Ian collapsed at training at Castle Park this morning and, despite the best efforts of the emergency response team, could not be resuscitated,” said a Doncaster Knights club statement.

Successful Rally Return For Reynolds

You’d have never thought that Julian Reynolds hadn’t rallied for 18 months, as the Narberth driver returned to competition by finishing an excellent second in the Pirelli MSA Welsh Forest Rally Championship on the opening round of the 2018 series, the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally, in a new Ford Fiesta R5.

Mica Moore Still In Olympic Medal Hunt At Halfway Stage

Mica Moore and her Great Britain bobsleigh partner Mica McNeill were sixth at the halfway point of the women's two-person bobsleigh at the Winter Olympics. Newport’s Moore and McNeil, who crowd-funded their way to the Games after being told their funding was being cut by their governing body in September, were 0.16 seconds off the medal positions. Pilot McNeill said: "It is very exciting. It's a brand new track and we haven't had a lot of time here. It's a fun track and it's going well so far.

Ruthless Warren Gatland Targets Irish Duo After Axing New Boys

Warren Gatland plans to act as ruthlessly in blitzing Ireland pair Johnny Sexton and Conor Murray as he has in axing Rhys Patchell and Josh Adams. Patchell and Adams have both paid the price for Wales’ defeat to England at Twickenham by losing their places in the squad that meets Ireland on Saturday. Neither player was able to maintain the standards and influence they showed in the victory over Scotland. Instead, Dan Biggar, Leigh Halfpenny and Liam Williams all return and Gareth Anscombe goes back to the bench for a game Wales have to win to maintain any hope of winning the Six Nations title.

Neil Warnock Says Cardiff City Are Still Outsiders. . . And Takes On Pep Guardiola Again

Neil Warnock insists Cardiff City are still outsiders to win automatic promotion to the Premier League – despite their two-point lead over their rivals. The Cardiff City manager has dismissed the chances of leaders Wolves surrendering their 11-point advantage at the top and thinks Aston Villa, Derby and Fulham still have a better chance of finishing runners-up. As the Bluebirds boss bids to extend his team’s unbeaten run to seven matches at Ipswich on Wednesday, he surveyed the position at the top of the table, while also taking another swipe at Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
