Gerwyn Price retained the International Darts Open in Riesa, Germany, with a gutsy response to beat Rob Cross, 8-6, in the final. Having collected his first European Tour title at the Sachsenarena 12 months ago defeating Simon Whitlock, the Welshman known as ‘The Iceman’ repeated his exploits on Sunday evening, claiming the crown for the second time and the £25,000 prize. Cross, who was looking for his maiden Euro Tour victory, settled into the final well with a 12-dart break in the third leg, only to be answered by an 87 bullseye finish from Price to level at 2-2.

Cardiff AC sealed a senior race double at the 52nd Welsh Road Relay Championships on Sunday. The event returned to Pembrey Country Park near Llanelli, hosting a trial trace for the ERRA National Road Relays for the first time, and with competitors enjoying far better weather conditions than when torrential rain blighted the races 12 months ago. The Cardiff men’s team took the lead at the end of the second leg courtesy of British 50km record holder Dan Nash. Jake Smith increased the lead on the penultimate leg, recording the fastest time over the 5.6km course in 16:48.

Matt Grimes insists he will “take one for the team” and risk yellow or red cards in future in order to keep points on the board for Swansea City.
