Jordan Ayew is convinced Swansea City can maintain their points cushion over the relegation zone – even though two rungs of the ladder between themselves and the bottom three have been kicked away. Ayew’s 11th goal of the season secured a 1-1 draw against Everton on Saturday, the least Swansea deserved after outplaying Sam Allardyce’s side for long periods at the Liberty Stadium. Although wins for rivals Crystal Palace and Huddersfield dropped them two places to 17th, Swansea now have a five-point lead over Southampton who are in 18th position.
Team Wales athletes are celebrating a record-breaking performance at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The team, made up of around 200 athletes, won 36 medals, including 10 Golds, the best ever return for Wales.
Andy Davies admitted he was gutted when he passed stricken Scottish runner Callum Hawkins in a brutally tough Commonwealth Games marathon today. The Welsh runner passed Hawkins around the 40km mark after the long time leader was laying on the ground having collapsed several times when set for the gold medal.
Caryl Jones and Elinor Kirk both produced gutsy displays to finish the women’s Commonwealth Games marathon that was held in searing heat. The duo finished eighth and 15th respectively in temperatures of around 86 degree (30degC) that took a toll on all the runners despite the early morning start.
Chaz Davies shrugged off a qualifying crash to twice storm through the filed to finish second in the opening World Superbikes race at Aragon. The Knighton-born rider lined-up in 11th spot on the Aragon track for the race which had to be restarted after an early three rider pule-up.
