Evans Finishes Fourth After Thrilling Rally Italy

Elfyn Evans finished fourth on Rally Italy, despite losing his battle for position with Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) today by less than a second. Just 7.9 seconds separated them going into today’s final four stages, but an inspired Mikkelsen set fastest time on all of them. Evans thought he’d finished fifth, before runaway leader Ott Tänak (Toyota) hit steering problems on the final stage – dropping him behind the Welshman and putting Evans back up into fourth. But Evans and co-driver Scott Martin were disappointed – the smallest of margins of being a little too cautious on the hairpins in their M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC proved to be the difference between standing on the podium or not.

Wales, England, Ireland . . . Callum Sheedy Has The World At His Feet, But What's On His Mind?

Callum Sheedy played 13 minutes for England at Twickenham a fortnight ago, but that would not stop him still playing for Wales as the match was uncapped. The Cardiff-born Bristol Bears fly-half could also still play for Ireland, but Peter Jackson reckons it’s surely make-your-mind-up time. Unless he happens to be a student of Barcelona FC, Callum Sheedy will probably have never heard of Laszlo Kubala. Different footballers, different times but the same grass-hopper mentality towards national allegiance, the same identity issues.

Birthday Boy Rhys Enoch Aims High For US Open Finale

Rhys Enoch has set himself an ambitious target of a top 16 finish at the US Open as he bids to underline it as his breakthrough tournament. The Welshman has already entered the record books with a second round 66 at Pebble Beach on Friday – the fourth lowest US Open round ever recorded at the course. Enoch - who turns 31 today (Sunday) – is hoping to celebrate his birthday in style by finishing high enough on the final leaderboard to earn an automatic place in next year’s tournament.

Life After Swimming . . . Health, Happiness And All That Jazz

Jazz Carlin is four months into the rest of her life after 14 years as an international swimmer. Wales’ Commonwealth champion and Olympic medallist spoke to Liz Byrne about life after swimming, her hopes, her fears, and her body. When double Olympic silver medalist Jazz Carlin announced her retirement from the pool she embarked on a new life that has brought a host of changes where excitement coexists with uncertainty. Carlin revealed she would be quitting the pool in February 2019 following a career that encompassed the misery and desolation of missing out on a home Olympics in 2012 through to the joy of double silver in the 400m and 800m freestyle four years later in Rio de Janeiro.

Teenager Harry Taylor is cut out for American Football

Teenage quarterback Harry Taylor has plenty of experience to call on during his rookie season with the South Wales Warriors in which he’s been throwing touchdowns for fun. The 19-year-old product of the club’s youth system is being guided through the season by starting QB Dean Jackson and, as his dad says, the college student comes from “a football family”. Though Taylor, from Cardiff, is in his first season of senior British American Football Association National League action he has been involved with the Llanharan-based Warriors since he was 13 and played for an “American high school style football programme” at the SGS College Bristol Academy of Sport.

Evans Goes Fourth Into Final Day In Sardinia

Elfyn Evans completed a very long, baking hot and bone shaking Saturday in Rally Italy in fourth position – and there will be no easing off on the final day on Sunday, as the M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC driver starts it just 7.9 seconds ahead of fifth placed Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai). While the top three edged out a bit of a gap at the top of the leaderboard, Evans was embroiled in a very close battle with the Norwegian driver. Co-driven by Scott Martin, the Welshman will want to hold onto fourth, as it will give him extra points and put him in pole position to benefit from any mistakes or misfortune that happen ahead of him.
