Tennis Tuesdays Are Back With Fun, Informal Tennis For Women

A series of fun, informal tennis sessions at local parks and clubs across Wales is getting under way this spring to inspire more women to play tennis more often.

‘Tennis Tuesdays’ was launched in 2015, organised by Tennis Wales and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) with Nike, and is aimed at intermediate standard players who are looking to get back into tennis.

For 2017, Tennis Tuesdays are running at venues around Wales, including: Prestatyn; Wrexham Tennis Centre; Ruthin; Mold; Newtown; Bridgend; Dinas Powys; Barry Community Tennis Club; Windsor LTC, Penarth; Allt Yr Yn, Newport; Usk; Monmouth; Cowbridge; Magor Undy; and Rhiwbina.

The weekly sessions are organised by local tennis coaches and will take place every Tuesday for those who want to play more and develop their tennis skills while having fun and meeting new people.

There is also a rewards programme, which offers a Nike t-shirt for attending six sessions, and a Nike bundle pack worth £100 for attending ten sessions between the months of May and October.

Peter Drew, chief executive of Tennis Wales, said: “The Tennis Tuesdays programme has proved very popular over the past couple of years, and it’s great to see more venues being added.

“It’s all about offering women the chance to play with like-minded people in a way fits easily into busy lifestyles. It’s particularly suitable for those who have played in the past, perhaps in school, and now want a fun way to get some exercise, meet people, and relieve the stresses of the day.”

Each weekly session focuses on one of six themes and includes fun match play. Rackets and balls are provided, so you can simply turn up in your sports kit and get on court.
