Wales Star Amanda Varey Leaves Celtic Dragons To Go Back To Bath

Wales international Amanda Varey has left the Celtic Dragons to rejoin Team Bath and could face her old teammates in the opening match of the new Vitality Superleague season.

Varey – who spent last season with the Dragons – has returned to Bath, where she won Superleague titles in 2010 and 2013.

The wing-attack switched to the Dragons last season as she focussed on representing Wales at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia, but has opted to return to her former club.

Varey, 31, was born in Pontypool but works as a pharmacist in Bath and continued to do some of her training at the university last season.

Team Bath head coach Jess Thirlby said: “We are so pleased to welcome Amanda back after spending time with Celtic Dragons to support her national squad aspirations with Wales, which we are very proud of.

“She is one of the longest serving and most loyal Team Bath players of all time.”

Varey could now feature against the Dragons when the Superleague season begins on January 5 when the Dragons meet Bath at the Birmingham Arena, where all the opening weekend of matches are being staged.

Whilst Varey joins Georgia Rowe and Cara Lea Moseley in leaving the Dragons, the Cardiff-based outfit have recruited a number of new faces including Chelsea Lewis who has made the opposite return journey from Bath to the Welsh capital.
