Bluebirds And Newport Make Early Season Fixture Changes

Cardiff City and Newport County have both made fixture changes following the League Cup draw.

The Bluebirds are at home against Portsmouth, which means the scheduled pre-season fixture between the clubs has been called off.

County have been drawn at home against Southend United, but the tie will take place at the Roots Hall stadium in Essex. That will allow work on Newport’s Rodney Parade pitch to be completed.

Cardiff were due to play League One Pompey at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, July 28, but the game has been cancelled after the two teams were drawn against each other in the Carabao League Cup first round.

Manager Neil Warnock will now arrange alternative opposition at home.

The Bluebirds begin their summer fixtures against Taffs Well on Friday, July 7 before a tour of Devon and Cornwall sees them play a series of fixtures at first team and under-23 levels.

They also play Shrewsbury Town away on Tuesday, July 25.

Tickets are on sale for the Taffs Well v Cardiff City pre-season fixtures at Rhiw Ddar on Friday, July 14 (7pm).

They are available from the Taffs Well clubhouse, which is open every night from 7.30pm, and the Rose and Crown. Adult tickets are £10, concessions £5.

Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock has confirmed City will be sending first team players for the friendly to help support The Wellman v Cancer appeal.
