Bluebirds Head To Shropshire For Latest Pre-season Test

Cardiff City take on Shrewsbury Town for the third successive year at the Montgomery Waters Meadow Stadium tonight (Tuesday, 7pm).

The Bluebirds won 4-0 last season, while the teams drew 2-2 in 2015.

Cardiff play their fifth first team pre-season fixture, having scored 12 goals and conceded three in their opening four games.

Kenneth Zohore has netted four goals in three appearances, including the only goal at Plymouth Argyle.

Goalkeeper Lee Camp could be included in City’s squad for the first time, but it is likely to be too early for Junior Hoilett. The winger has completed his international commitments with Canada, who lost 2-1 against Jamaica in the Concacaf Cup quarter-finals.

Hoilett has returned to the UK, but may be given a few more days rest and play against Scottish visitors Livingston at home on Friday.

League One Shrews avoided relegation last season, finishing 18th, and manager Paul Hurst has added 10 new signings.

They include midfield player Jon Nolan, who joined from relegated Chesterfield, while former Newport County striker Lenell John-Lewis signed for the Shrews.

Town have added Norwich pair Carlton Morris and Ebou Adams on loan, along with young Welsh winger Daniel James.

Shrewsbury have beaten Aston Villa 2-1 and Wolves 2-0 in pre-season games. Goals from Alex Rodman and Carlton Morris earned the win against Wolves.

Wales international David Edwards was in the Wolves team and said: “I was really impressed with Shrewsbury.

“They were getting the ball into the front boys really well and holding it up as well as looking dangerous when attacking.

“Paul Hurst’s signings, hopefully, will bring a successful season away from the bottom and really consolidate this year.

“The players he’s brought in will be hungry to prove themselves and this level and it sounds like they have a really good dressing room.

“I really do think if they can start well and get all the fans at the Meadow behind the team then it can be a comfortable season and they can be looking mid-table up.

“I liked the boy in midfield Nolan. He looks like he has really nice feet.

“He got away from a few players, you think you had him under pressure and then he’ll nibble away from you.

“He looked impressive but all of the boys did well – they look like a real unit.”

Cardiff City squad: Brian Murphy, Neil Etheridge, Lee Camp, Lee Peltier, Bruno Manga, Sean Morrison, Matt Connolly, Loic Damour, Joe Ralls, Matty Kennedy, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Danny Ward, Kenneth Zohore, Sol Bamba, Joe Bennett, Ibrahim Meite, Lee Tomlin, Anthony Pilkington, Kadeem Harris, Junior Hoilett.

Bluebirds fans can pay on the gate before kick-off.

The Bluebirds’ under-23 squad are in action at Hereford FC on Wednesday evening.
