Manager Neil Warnock Loving Life With The Bluebirds

Neil Warnock is loving life in charge of Cardiff City and says their achievements so far are ‘little short of miraculous’.

The Bluebirds are second in the Championship ahead of back-to-back home fixtures against Barnsley on Tuesday (7.45pm) and Birmingham City on Saturday (3pm).

Both are in the bottom four and six points would put Cardiff in a powerful position going into their final 10 matches.

Looking at the squad when I took over and where we are now, 16 months later, is little short of a miracle,” said Warnock during an interview with ITV Wales Sport.

We still need a few points to get in the play-offs and that is our immediate aim.

Cardiff City are not supposed to be where they are at this stage and we have to enjoy it.

Wolves, Aston Villa, Derby County , Fulham. They should be up there looking at wage bills. The pressure is on them and we have to enjoy it.

Personally, I don’t look beyond the next month, let alone next season or next year. At my age you don’t know and it’s important to enjoy these times.

I still want to win. I still want promotion. I am highly competitive and that won’t change.

Football is a great place to be and I am going to enjoy every second of my time.”

Warnock, 69, has been in professional football for 50 years and has a burning desire to achieve a record-breaking eighth promotion.

He has steered Cardiff from a position of chaos, has brought stability to the club and earned the confidence of owner Vincent Tan.

Vincent realises that I know what I’m doing,” said Warnock. “He is a successful businessman and they don’t make many bad decisions.

If he supports me as I have asked him to and as he has that’s all we can ask. He loves this football club.

Vincent wants Cardiff City to do well.

From a personal viewpoint I want that eighth promotion.”

Warnock has signed a new two-year contract and Bluebirds’ chief executive Ken Choo told BBC Sport: “The club deserves a manager like him. He is a manager who is very focused.

“He can relate back and manage upwards as well as downwards. He is a great man-manager and even myself, I learn a lot from him.

Age is not a real concern to us. We don’t look at age, we look at whether manager has the right fire in his belly, whether he wants to achieve the same objective as the club.

Neil came across to fit that perfectly. It’s a perfect fit.”
