Merthyr Mawr’s Jack Earns Big Victory At Cheltenham

Merthyr Mawr’s Jack Tudor, aged 16, had his biggest win to date when he won the Cheltenham Pony Racing Authority Graduates Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham on Uno Mas (writes Brian Lee).

The horse is trained by former National Hunt jockey Christian Williams at Ogmore-By-Sea.

Five-year-old Uno Mas, a 14-1 chance, got home by a neck from Cornborough, ridden by Miss Abbie McCain, to claim the £9,285 first prize at Prestbury Park.

Earlier in the afternoon, ToBeFair, partnered by Thomas Bellamy, landed the Safron Landing Systems Handicap Hurdle coming home five lengths ahead of the bottom weighted Broughtons Admiral.

A 15-2 chance, ToBeFair is trained in west Wales by Debra Hamer, who hails from the Bridgend area and whose husband Paul is a former Welsh champion point-to-point rider.

At Exeter, Chepstow’s Robert Stephens was successful with Tudors Treasure which won the handicap chase under Tom O’Brien. Eight-year-old Treasure was 11-4 favourite and won by a length from Kingston Mimosa.
