Coventry City 1, Cardiff City 1

Sam Bowen, the teenage son of form Bluebirds midfield player Jason, scored for Cardiff City in their 1-1 Professional under-23 Development League draw against Coventry City at the Alan Higgs Centre.

Bowen struck after 50 minutes, firing a low shot home from an angle past former Cardiff City youth ‘keeper Ben Wilson.

Jordan Ponticelli, a 21-year-old striker who has played 32 first team matches for Coventry equalised when he half-volleyed home a knock-down from a corner.

“It lacked intensity and any real spark from both sets of players,” said Ponticelli after the game.

“As with a lot of u-23 matches, it’s a mis-match of players of those coming in to get match minutes and fitness, so it’s a little bit harder to work together as a team.
